Onion is direct seeded in southern latitudes, otherwise it is grown from onion sets. First enjoy the tender tops, then the mild, new onion and in autumn as a well-tasting vegetable in many dishes. Water and fertilize abundantly. When the tops start to bend; let them dry, harvest the onion and let it dry outside for a few days if weather so permits. Store dryly. Thrives in humus-rich and fertilized soil.
