A perennial that emerges in February/March and produces beautiful white star-shaped flowers the second year. Blooms in May and then withers. The young leaves are very rich in vitamin C and have the finest flavor, either steamed, in wok dishes, in mashed vegetables or freshly cut in salads and as a condiment. Once the plant is established and thrives, it spreads willingly. Requires a cold period for successful germination. Grows unevenly. Thrives in shade in moist soil.
