The most common onion variety. Gets round, firm bulbs with a strong flavor. The shell is fine. If the onion is to be saved, it is important that it matures fully in dry and sunny weather. Cut and then hung to dry for a few weeks. Can be sown in August/September if you want an earlier harvest than normal. May require over-covering in winter to ensure overwintering. Place in a sunny position in deep, porous and humus-rich soil. Does not tolerate standing water. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
