Mangold Magenta Sunset Ripens within 55 days of germination. Smooth, mild-tasting leaves and reddish stems are used for eating. Young leaves are very suitable for salads, and mature leaves and stems can be steamed, stewed, used in soups. Mangold roots dug out in the fall can sprout in early spring. During mild winters, covered roots can overwinter in soil. Grows best in non-acidic, loamy soil rich in organic matter.
