Crusty, slightly red-edged leaves. Repeat sowing at 2 week intervals for even supply of brittle leaves. Can be grown in pots. Sowing: Early, as soon as the soil is workable - July. Propagate 2-3 weeks for earlier harvest. Lettuce seeds need cool conditions to germinate, not above 20°C. Thrives in loose, loamy soil but thrives on most soils. Water regularly. Harvest gradually, older leaves may become bitter.
