Fairly hardy leek. Can be direct seeded in warm spots, but transplanting is preferred. Cup the plants for long, white stems. The leeks can remain in the soil for gradual harvest during mild winters, but cover the soil with straw in autumn for ease of harvest during winter. Thrives in fertilized, water-retaining soil, preferably alkaline.
