The first year the plant creates a small flat rosette. The following year, the elegant, long spires appear. They have a multitude of flower buds, which open from the bottom up. Incredibly beautiful in the wilder part of the garden or as tall spires that stand out among the perennials. Seeds willingly once established. Very small seeds. May be mixed with sand for easier sowing. The seeds are then lightly pressed into the soil. Thrives in sunny, well-drained, sandy, calcareous soil. After sowing, the soil is kept moist until germination has started properly.
