Dogwood is a perennial legume that grows long roots that contribute to porosity and thus improve soil structure. Produces beautiful yellow flowers. However, it only flowers after 2 years. The plant is nitrogen-fixing, which means it takes up nitrogen from the air and releases it into the soil, making it more nutritious. The dense growth helps weeds to have more difficult growing conditions and prevents leaching of nutrients and dehydration of the soil. The flowers are rich in pollen and nectar and are therefore popular with insects. The flower is particularly famous for attracting the beautiful blue butterfly known as the blue wing. Thrives in sunny conditions in well-drained soil. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
