Lots of beautiful purple flowers throughout the summer. Attracts bees, butterflies and insects. The plant will tolerate some frost, but will not overwinter once it has flowered. When sown late from August to September, blood clover overwinters as green rosettes. In the second growing season, the plant flowers at the end of May. The plant develops a medium-deep taproot with many lateral roots that make the soil porous and improve its structure. Blood clover can also be grown to add nitrogen to the soil, reduce leaching and inhibit weed growth. Leave the plant remains untouched during the winter. The next spring, the remaining plant parts are turned into the top layer of soil. Blood clover requires a break in cultivation of 4-6 years. Thrives in calcareous soil. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
