Alfalfa is a perennial legume that has long roots that contribute to porosity and thus improve soil structure. The plant is a protein-rich fodder plant, which binds the nitrogen in the air via tuberous bacteria, which then accumulates in the soil, making it more nutritious. The dense growth helps weeds to have more difficult growing conditions and prevents leaching of nutrients and dehydration of the soil. The flowers are rich in pollen and nectar and are therefore popular with insects. The plant parts are buried in the soil at the latest at the time of flowering - for later sowing only in the spring. Particularly suitable for heavy, compacted calcareous soils. A cultivation break of 5-7 years on the same area should be observed. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
