This variety has large, single flowers in deep red, almost black. Grow by a wall. Normally blooms the year after sowing, but can bloom the first year if sown early, becoming an annual. Cut down the stalk before the last flower wilts so it may grow back next year. Soak the seeds for 24 hours for faster germination. Thrives in fertile, water-retaining soil.
