Nitrogen-fixing plant. Produces pink flowers. When the plant parts are buried (at the latest during flowering before the seed pods are formed), nitrogen is released to subsequent crops. It is therefore suitable as a preculture for plants that have a high need for nitrogen, such as cabbage. In addition, especially in early sowing, the plant develops a dense, fine root network that makes the soil porous and improves its structure. The dense vegetation helps to provide more difficult growing conditions for weeds and prevents leaching of nutrients. Fragrant clover is therefore particularly suited to nutrient-poor soils or as a cover crop. Leave the plant remains untouched during the winter. The next spring, the remaining plant parts are turned into the top layer of soil. Sweet clover requires a break in cultivation of 4-5 years. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
