The Habanero species is thought to have originated in the Yucatan region of Mexico. Although the name 'habanero' can be translated as 'someone or something from Havana', the plant only grows in isolation on the island of Cuba. Even today, it is mainly grown on the Yucatan Peninsula, but it is mainly orange and yellow habanero varieties that are grown here. The red variety usually comes from the Caribbean or the southern states of the USA.
Habanero Orange Chili is the classic hot chili variety from Mexico; it is about 50 times hotter than a jalapeño chili. The thin-walled fruits are round, wrinkled and grow about 5 cm long and 3 cm wide. They have a shape similar to a mini pepper. They have such an intensely fruity flavor that many other types of chili have a very hard time competing with habanero peppers. Their tropical, fruity flavor makes them an essential ingredient in any salsa and allows them to combine particularly well with tropical fruits. The color changes from light green to orange. The plants produce a large number of medium-sized orange fruits.
