Everything you need for your cultivation
Saffron crocus or Crocus sativus is a purple crocus that grows about 8-10 cm high.
The pistil is reddish-orange and tripartite. It is the pistils that are picked, dried and used for saffron.
The bulbs are usually set during August to October. Plant your bulbs in well-drained soil. The crocus does not like clay soil and should be planted in a sunny position.
Plant your saffron crocus at a depth of 10cm and with about 5cm between bulbs. On each bulb will be between 1-5 flowers.
It can flower as early as the first fall, usually in October but also in November.
When winter comes, the saffron crocus wants to grow quite dry and with a temperature of at least 5 degrees.
Saffron crocus is not really adapted to the Swedish climate but due to several requests from customers we have chosen to include it.
It is grown in favorable locations in southern Sweden and on Gotland. But that doesn't mean you can't experiment.
Try planting it in pots, greenhouses, favorable locations or why not try planting it hydroponically?
Plant your saffron bulbs shortly after you receive them.
